This Thursday, Newell's fell 1-0 against Independiente Rivadavia at the Estadio Marcelo Alberto Bielsa in Rosario, in the context of the first date of the 2025 Apertura Tournament of the Professional Football League. The only goal was scored by Mauro Peinipil at 43 minutes of the first half, while Ever Banega missed a penalty at 19 minutes of the second period.
Despite dominating the game and having opportunities, Newell's could not overcome the goal defended by Ezequiel Centurión. For its part, Independiente Rivadavia secured the three points thanks to a goal from Peinipil after a cross from Luciano Gómez towards the end of the first half.
After the goal, Independiente Rivadavia withdrew into defense and managed to maintain the lead, resisting Newell's attempts to equalize the score. Despite a penalty in favor, missed by Banega at the beginning of the second half, and the efforts of the home team, the result remained unchanged, and Centurión was highlighted as the player of the match.
In the next round, Newell's will visit Banfield, while Independiente Rivadavia will host Barracas Central.
